The Negronne fig (Ficus carica 'Negronne'), also known as the Violette de Bordeaux, has deep purple, almost black skin when ripe with a red flesh giving berry & honey notes. Negronne Fig is hardy down to zone 7. This deciduous fruit tree can tolerate temperatures between 0°–5°. In colder climates, you can protect it from temperatures below 25° F by storing it in a cool place, but make sure not to let it dry out. Because of its smaller tree size you could plant in a pot to easily move indoors for winter if you're in zones 6 or 7.
Figs love full sun, regular waterings and rich well draining soil. In spring when your fig starts to come out of dormancy you can apply a well balanced fertilizer.
