Sweetheart Lilac is a fragrant early-blooming hybrid lilac known for its unique two-toned flowers and reliable cold hardiness. In mid-spring, it produces abundant clusters of soft pink-lavender blooms edged in white, creating a delicate, bicolor effect that stands out in the landscape. The flowers carry a strong, sweet fragrance and are excellent for cutting.

This upright shrub grows 8 to 10 feet tall and 6 to 8 feet wide, forming a full, rounded shape over time. As a Syringa hyacinthiflora hybrid, Sweetheart is more tolerant of heat and humidity than common lilacs and is among the earliest to bloom each spring. It performs best in full sun with well-drained soil and benefits from light pruning just after flowering to encourage vigorous growth and future bloom.
