Yaku Jima Silver Grass prefers full sun to part shade. Too little sun will cause this otherwise 3 - 4' ornamental grass to droop. It is a prolific bloomer during summer and fall. Flowers consist of buff to pink colors bordered by a red tinge. The foliage of Yaku Jim turns a delightful brownish red in fall. The inflorescence rises above its multihued foliage and can persist well into winter given the right conditions. Foliage is best left alone until late winter when it can be cut back before new growth emerges.
